︎︎︎MOVING

October 3 to 29, 2022

During a month of residence, Cecilia Coddou (CL)* and Fernanda Radetich (ARG)* together with different people reviewed the historical/cultural archive of the neighborhood of Vallecas. From meetings with neighbors and with different cultural agents of the city of Madrid, they activated exercises of territorial recognition and sharing of some stories that form the identity of the neighborhood.

We managed tours and meetings with different Vallekans and people related to the discipline of photography and cultural mediation that allowed us to access different archives that we re-interpreted, intervened and put in relation to build a collective archive that offers new readings and works as a magical act of encounter and social cohesion to highlight common interests and the possibility of generating support networks.

MOVING, is a collaborative visual documentation project based on the compilation and creation of an archive about Vallekas and the social relations systems of its neighbors, taking as a starting point the casual encounter with young immigrants from the neighborhood, using photography as a device for conversation and recognition of the intercultural character of the neighborhood.

In formal terms, the project problematizes and materializes the displacements of photography as a creative tool, considering family photography as a work of art, and the notion of the archive as a living and dynamic essay condition. On the other hand, we materialize the encounters in created and delivered archives, at the same time we use the photographic portrait emulating the passport photo giving account of the collectivity of the project.

︎︎︎OPENING MOVING PROCESS

On October 27, 2022, the opening and exhibition of the work process of the residents took place, taking advantage of the visit of two Cuban artists -Levi Orta and Luis Gómez- who took the opportunity to talk about their work, making the meeting a common space for dialogue through food.
The residents installed the archive created, visualizing the material collected along the way.

Photographs and Polaroids taken by the residents as a record of the opening.
